The Voice is a television series that involves four famous singers as coaches and they select singers through a series of blind auditions. Social media has really got involved with the television industry, and The Voice uses Twitter very heavily. The Voice uses twitter to ask the judges questions, vote, and save contestants as they are eliminated. One thing that really strikes me about the show and social media is that the coaches tweet during the show all the time.
Twitter
The Voice uses Twitter as its main promotion for the show. This first article shows how it is problematic for the coaches. The coaches respond to their Twitter question and last Monday there were some lyrics replaced and the fans were not happy about it. This article on the Boot discusses that they are going to lose fans on Twitter because they replaced those lyrics. Coach Blake Shelton immediately apologized to Twitter and said he had nothing to do with these changes. This next article on the Billboard talks about how Christina Aguilera joined Twitter to honor and promote the Voice. Christina joining Twitter for the Voice brings her fans to watch the show. The Voice is very watched show, but without these coaches promoting through Twitter it may not be as watched as it is. Christina joining just shows how much they rely on social media for this show. USA Today has an article about how the fans can now join Twitter in order to vote and save their favorite artists. The show really wants to put the fans in charge of who stays on the show and they are doing that through Twitter. They see Twitter as the quick and easy way to calculate votes from fans and also keep them interested and involved.
Facebook
These next two articles talk about how Facebook have also added voting options for the Voice through the timeline. Lost Remote talks about how the Voice is already one of the most social television shows out there. It goes on to talk about how they have now added a way to vote via Facebook and how that allows more fans to get involved with the show and keep up with their favorite artists. Huffpost TV also talks about Facebook and the Voice. It talks about the new timeline app on Facebook and how they are using it to vote, but it also talks about how using social media has drawn in the young adults to the Voice. It shows how since they have started using social media with the Voice number of viewers has jumped tremendously.
